Traditionally buffet cabinet or sideboards are placed in dining rooms for serving food, to display serving dishes and storage purposes. However, today it is more like an additional décor piece that accentuates your dining room. As with most furniture with storage being the main purpose, there is no hard and fast rule how and where you want to use them. They can even be placed in other rooms besides the dining room to store clothes and whatnots.
